Monika Rosandić Grgić is a speech and language pathologist employed at the Teaching and Clinical Centre of the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Zagreb. Her professional work focuses on assessing and supporting early communication and language development in children, particularly children with autism spectrum disorder. She participates in professional training, teaching, and projects in the field of augmentative and alternative communication. Alongside her clinical work, she continuously develops her expertise in research and is soon completing her doctoral studies. Her scientific interests are directed at typical and atypical early communication and language development, and she is the author and co-author of several scientific papers and chapters in a university textbook.

From modelling to sending and receiving messages: a preschool boy's path of communication development
The presentation offers an account of six months of supporting augmentative and alternative communication in work with a boy with complex communication needs, with an emphasis on the gradual changes in his engagement in communicative exchanges. The presentation will highlight the importance of following the child's interests, flexibly adjusting intervention procedures, and the gradual transition from modelling toward genuine, two-way communication.
